BENEATH THE ICE

David never wanted to come along on his Mom’s research trip to the far North but he’s stuck here anyway: no friends, no internet just nothing but snow and ice. 
It gets so cold here in Kangiqsujuaq that even the surface of the ocean freezes.

David stays with Aanak and her granddaughter Paasa. He follows Paasa through her daily chores and discovers magic where he didn’t expect it. He watches how she chips a hole into the sea ice, waits till the tide is out and then crawls down to the bottom of the ocean to collect mussels.

“But never take more than you need”, is a warning of Sea Goddess Sedna. Ignoring this advice and all safety rules, David goes out onto the ice and enters the world at the bottom of the ocean, alone...
